WALLNODE App
The archive on your desktop. Browse it, set a wallpaper at your screen’s real resolution, and let it change itself on a schedule from any series, category, artist, your likes or a search.

Windows will warn you, and here is why
The installer is not code-signed, so Windows shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen when you run it. Click More info, then Run anyway.
That warning is SmartScreen saying it has not seen this file before, not that it found anything wrong with it. Every unsigned installer gets it, and a newly signed one usually gets it too until enough people have run it for a reputation to build.
It is not signed because signing costs money. A code signing certificate runs a few hundred a year, forever, and it buys nothing except the absence of that one screen. Wallnode carries no ads, no trackers and nothing to sell, so there is no budget it would come out of. If you would like there to be one, that is what donations are for.
Until then, the SHA-256 under the download button is the honest alternative: it tells you the file you have is the file that was built.
In PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\WallnodeSetup-1.2.1.exe
Or install it with winget
Wallnode is in the Windows Package Manager, which ships with Windows 11 and current Windows 10:
winget install Wallnode.Wallnode
It is the same installer as the button above, installed the same way, for your account only. winget checks the file against the SHA-256 in its manifest and refuses to run one that does not match, so it does the hash comparison for you.
The app tells you when a new version is out but never installs one
itself. With winget, updating is
winget upgrade Wallnode.Wallnode, or it comes along
with everything else in winget upgrade --all. A new release
reaches winget a little after it appears here, once Microsoft’s
package repository has accepted it.
What it installs
- No administrator prompt. It installs for your account only, into
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Wallnode. - One Start menu entry, and an entry in Settings > Apps to remove it.
- Nothing starts with Windows unless you ask. Autostart is a switch in the app’s settings, off by default.
- Uninstalling leaves your desktop alone. The wallpaper you are looking at is never deleted, and settings and sign-in are only removed if you say so.
You will need an account
The app signs in with the same email and password as the website, and downloads count against the same daily limit of 50. Rotation keeps a reserve out of that so a wallpaper you asked for by hand always works.

- A new version is noticed within the hour. The app asked at most once a day, so a release published in the afternoon waited for the next morning, and restarting it at the wrong moment could hide the update for a whole day.
- While an update is available, the tray menu says so at the top, with "Update to …" opening the download page. It stays there until you update.
- The app remembers a new version it has heard about, so the notice is there as soon as it starts, even offline.
- Clicking the "new version available" notification opens the download page.
- Rotation never puts the wallpaper you already have back on the desktop, and "Up next" never shows it. On many PCs Windows reports its own copy of the wallpaper rather than the file the app set, so the app could not tell what was showing, and the same wallpaper could come round again.
- Clearing the wallpaper cache always keeps the file your desktop is showing.
- Settings > About has a "Check now" button, which says whether you are up to date, or that the server could not be reached.
- Screen readers and other assistive tools can see what is on each settings tab. Only the tab strip and the Done button were exposed before.

- Search forgives a typo, as the website does. "gren" shows the green wallpapers with "Showing results for green" under the search box, and a link to search for exactly what you typed instead. The series, category and artist lists do the same, each correcting towards its own names: "marathn" finds the Marathon series. Plurals find their singular too: "colors" finds everything tagged "color".
- Send a wallpaper to the desktop and the login screen in one go, from the send menu. One download covers both.
- With rotation off, "On your desktop" previews what rotation would put on next, dimmed, with a button to turn it on. Turning it on keeps that same wallpaper as up next.
- A new version shows as a pill in the title bar until you update. Clicking it opens the download page.
- The app checks for a new version while it runs, not only when it starts. A copy left in the tray for days hears about a release within an hour of the day it is due.
- The tray icon turns green while rotation is on, instead of showing a small green dot in the corner.
- New type on the cards. Titles are set in Space Grotesk, the site's heading face, and the lines under them (artist, resolution, counts, "Now" and "Up next") in Windows' own font, in normal case. The monospaced type they replace spaced its letters unevenly at small sizes.
- "Loading", "Downloading" and the other messages over a picture are in normal case too.
- Sharp fit icons. Fill, Fit, Stretch, Center and Span are drawn for your display's scaling, so every line lands on whole pixels instead of blurring across two. Fill's brackets sit in the corners, and Span shows a dotted seam where the two screens meet.
- The System appearance icon shows its dark half filled in, and the send menu's arrow is lighter, matching the icons beside it.
- A tidier startup card: "Starting…" sits centred under the mark instead of leaning left of it, and the WALLNODE wordmark is set tighter. The installer's side panel matches.
- "Up next" no longer shows the wallpaper that is already on your desktop.
- Turning rotation on or off from the tray updates the home page straight away.
- "Next change in 3 hours" is in the same type as the buttons beside it.
- In a narrow window your email folds down to its icon instead of covering the last items of the menu, every time, however the window is resized.
- The home page keeps its full number of columns at every window size. At the smallest it dropped to two, leaving a third of the row empty.

- The app's own chrome uses Windows' own font: the title bar, status bar, every button, field and dropdown, and the settings and sign-in windows, in sentence case. Wallpaper titles and details keep the archive's monospaced type.
- The title-bar icons are one size. The sign-out door and the theme switch no longer stand bigger than the gear.
- Text sits in the middle of its button. It was a pixel low.
- The close button's red reaches the window's edges.
- On a wallpaper's page, the space around the picture takes the picture's own colours, blurred, instead of grey bands.
- New Fill and Span icons.
- The status bar says "2 screens, 3840×2160 each", with each screen and the combined size in its tooltip, and it lines up with the window above it.
- Inside a series, category or artist, "Series" in the top bar and the breadcrumb heading take you back to the full list.
- The tray menu looks like the rest of the app and follows light and dark.
- A smaller download: 62MB, down from 81MB.
- Runs on .NET 10, the long-term-supported release, bundled inside as before, so there's nothing extra to install.

- The installer wears the WALLNODE mark instead of Inno Setup's stock cardboard box and CD, on the same near-black the app uses. Drawn from the same geometry as the startup card, at three sizes so it stays sharp on a scaled display.

- History tiles find their cached thumbnail again. They were looked up under the filename the cache stopped using when thumbnails gained a version, so the view had only ever drawn wallpapers whose full-resolution file was still on disk.
- Clicking a history entry opens the real record: preview, resolution, credits and like state, instead of an empty preview and half a header.
- A history wallpaper with nothing cached anywhere now fetches its preview from the archive rather than showing nothing.
- The mark stops spinning when there is nothing left to wait for. A loader still turning under "NO PREVIEW AVAILABLE" was claiming something was still coming.
- A database outage on the server no longer produces an endless stack of error dialogs. `wallpapers.php` answers 200 with no wallpapers list when the database is down, and every rotation tick threw on it.
